Privacy Policy
Who we are. Digital Backpacker is owned and operated by MCP Labs LLC, which is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. Questions and requests about your data: use the contact form.
What we collect without an account. Standard web server logs (IP address, user agent, pages requested, timestamps) are kept briefly for security and capacity planning. Preferences you set (interface language, theme, view mode, ★ Saved items, packing-list ticks) are stored in your own browser (cookies/localStorage), not on our servers.
Analytics. The Site records a small number of product events (a page view by page type, a tool completion, a newsletter sign-up, a plan saved) without your IP address, without a user identifier and without cross-site tracking. These counts are used to understand which tools and content categories are useful. The only third-party analytics script is Google Analytics, described next.
Google Analytics. We also use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and pages viewed. It sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*), runs with Google's advertising and ad-personalization features off, and is used only for aggregate traffic statistics. You can turn it off for this browser with the button below, or with Google's opt-out browser add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
No accounts. Digital Backpacker does not offer user accounts and does not ask for a password. Starred items and preferences stay in your own browser. If you save a plan from a tool we store only the plan's settings under a random link, with no name or email.
Shared plans. When you save a plan from a tool we generate a link. Plans are private to the link unless you choose to list them publicly. FIRE calculator shares hide portfolio and income inputs by default. Shared plans never include your name or email.
Contact and newsletter. If you submit the contact form, a destination update or the newsletter form, we store what you send to respond and to send the updates you requested. Unsubscribe or request deletion via Contact.
Ask the Data. Questions typed into Ask the Data are sent to an AI model provider to generate an answer from our own data and are subject to a per-connection rate limit; questions are not linked to an identity.
Cookies. First-party cookies/localStorage are used for the preferences above and for a cross-site-request-forgery token on forms. Google Analytics sets the analytics cookies named above; the Site sets no advertising cookies of its own. No consent banner is shown; analytics can be switched off on this page, and this will be revisited if advertising is enabled.
Advertising (Google AdSense). If advertising is enabled on this Site, third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) enables it and its partners to serve personalized ads. You may opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, and learn more at Google's advertising policies. Where required, ad personalization is subject to your consent choices.
Third-party links and embedded fonts. News headlines and official sources link to external sites whose privacy practices are their own. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when the font files are requested.
Changes. This policy may be updated; material changes will be reflected on this page.
