Da Nang
A beach city with fibre internet: central Vietnam's practical nomad base.

Overview
Da Nang is a modern, orderly city on a long sweep of beach between Hue and Hoi An, and in a few years it has become one of Asia's fastest-growing remote-work hubs. My Khe beach is the morning routine, the Han River bridges the evening one, and the Marble Mountains, Son Tra peninsula, Ba Na hills and Hoi An's old town are all within forty minutes. It lacks Hanoi's history and Saigon's energy and most residents consider that the point.
Why visit
For the easiest comfortable life in Vietnam: beach, apartments, cafes and fast internet at prices that undercut almost every other beach city in Asia.
Budget breakdown
Dorms 150,000 to 250,000 dong, hotels near the beach from 500,000 dong, serviced studios 7 to 12 million dong a month. Local meals 40,000 to 80,000 dong; a Grab bike across the river 25,000 dong.

Where to stay
An Thuong and My An (the beach-side nomad quarter) for studios and cafes; Son Tra district for newer high-rises; the city centre (Hai Chau) for a more Vietnamese feel.
Neighbourhoods
An Thuong and My An (nomads, cafes, beach), Hai Chau (centre, markets), Son Tra district (new towers, river views), Nam O (quiet, local, surf in season).
Food
Mi Quang (turmeric noodles), banh xeo, bun cha ca, fresh seafood on the beach road, and the Con market for breakfast. Hoi An's cao lau is 30 minutes away.
Getting around
Grab bikes and cars, a rentable scooter for the coast road, the Hoi An shuttle bus, and Da Nang station for trains north to Hue (the Hai Van Pass line is one of Asia's prettiest).
Things to do
By travel style
One destination database, seven views. Fit is an editorial score out of five.
A beach stop between Hue and Hoi An rather than a destination in itself; the Hai Van Pass ride is the highlight.
English-teaching work exists; a comfortable base for a Vietnam semester.
Beach, fibre, $450 studios, coworking and a community of remote workers who chose it for exactly those reasons.
A rest stop on the coast rather than a crossroads; most people pair it with Hoi An.
Cheap, calm, modern and increasingly popular with early retirees, though Vietnam has no retirement visa and stays mean visa runs.
Surf lessons (winter), diving at Cham Islands (summer), cooking in Hoi An, and quiet weeks of beach and work.
Flat, clean and easy, with good hotels on the beach from $40 and Hue's imperial sights an easy day away.
Practical
Safety
One of Vietnam's safest cities. Rip currents on My Khe in the rainy season; obey the flags.
Common scams
Few. Beachfront seafood pricing by weight needs a glance at the scale.
Connectivity and remote work
Fibre of 100 to 300 Mbps is standard in rentals; coworking at Enouvo Space, DNES, Hub Cafe and dozens of cafes designed for laptops.
Arguably Vietnam's best nomad city: a beach-side quarter built for remote workers, cheap serviced studios, coworking, and a growing international community without Bali's prices or traffic.

Editorial assessment (October 2026).
Language
Vietnamese (central dialect, harder for learners); English common in An Thuong, less so elsewhere.
Cultural etiquette
Beach dress is fine on the beach, not in town; temples require covered shoulders. Vietnamese pride in the city is high; it is clean, keep it so.
Insurance and health
Family Medical Practice and Vinmec Da Nang handle most needs; Bangkok for complex cases.
Visa information
Vietnam's 90-day e-visa; many nomads run back-to-back e-visas with a short trip to Laos or Thailand in between.

Remote work: No dedicated nomad visa. Vietnam has no remote-work visa; most remote workers use consecutive 90-day e-Visas. Working for a Vietnamese employer requires a work permit. official source ↗
