Morocco
Africa and the Arab world three hours from most of Europe: Marrakech's medina, the High Atlas, Sahara dunes, Atlantic surf towns and a long-stay cost base that stays low once you learn to bargain.
Entry and visas
Citizens of the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia and many others may stay up to 90 days without a visa. Extensions are bureaucratic; many long-stayers leave to Spain and return. No dedicated nomad visa.

Safety
Low violent crime. The friction is persistent hassle, unofficial guides, and overcharging in the medinas, which fades once you know the ropes. Solo women report more unwanted attention than in Europe; dress conservatively and expect it to lessen outside tourist zones. Earthquake risk exists (2023 High Atlas quake).
Official advisory: Morocco - Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution (U.S. Department of State, ). UK FCDO advice ↗
Health
Private clinics in Marrakech and Casablanca are good; rural care is basic. Stomach upsets are common in the first week.
Money
Dirhams are a closed currency (exchange in-country). Cash dominates in souks; cards in riads and restaurants. Attijariwafa and BMCE ATMs are common; fees apply.
Tipping: Small tips expected widely; 10 percent in restaurants · Tap water: Treated in cities but most visitors drink bottled
Getting around
ONCF trains (including Africa's first high-speed line, Casablanca to Tangier) are excellent; CTM and Supratours buses cover the rest. Petit taxis in cities (insist on the meter); inDrive works in Marrakech.
SIMs and connectivity
Maroc Telecom has the best coverage; Orange and inwi are cheaper. SIMs are often free with a data top-up.
