Czechia

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and, away from the Old Town, still a reasonable place to live for a season. Czechia pairs it with excellent beer, forests and castles reachable by cheap trains.

Entry and visas

Schengen rules apply. Czechia's Digital Nomad programme (2023) is aimed at IT professionals from selected countries and requires a sponsoring arrangement; the long-term visa for business purposes (Zivno) is the traditional freelancer route and involves a trade licence.

Safety

Very safe. Pickpocketing on tram 22 and around Charles Bridge; currency-exchange scams in Prague's centre (never exchange on the street, and check rates carefully).

Official advisory: Czechia - Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions (U.S. Department of State, ). UK FCDO advice ↗

Health

High-quality healthcare; insurance for non-EU visitors. No special vaccinations; tick-borne encephalitis is present in forests.

Money

Czechia uses the koruna. Cards are widely accepted; some restaurants add tips to card payments by default. Use bank ATMs, never Euronet.

Tipping: Rounding up or around 10 percent · Tap water: Safe to drink

Getting around

Trains (České dráhy, RegioJet, Leo Express) are cheap and comfortable; RegioJet buses reach Vienna, Budapest and Kraków. Prague transit is superb.

SIMs and connectivity

O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone; mobile data is relatively expensive by EU standards. EU roaming applies.
