Brazil
A continent in one country: Rio's beaches and hills, the Amazon, the Pantanal, colonial Bahia and a coastline longer than most round-the-world routes. Brazil asks for time, Portuguese and street sense, and repays all three.
Entrée et visas
EU, UK and most Latin American citizens enter visa-free for 90 days (extendable to 180 per year). Brazil reinstated visa requirements for US, Canadian and Australian citizens in April 2025; they must obtain an e-Visa online before travel. Brazil also offers a digital nomad visa (VITEM XIV) for one year, renewable, with a monthly income threshold of 1,500 USD.

Sécurité
Street robbery is a genuine risk in Rio, São Paulo and Salvador; the standard advice (no visible phone or jewellery, use apps for transport, avoid empty beaches after dark) works for the millions who visit without incident. Favelas should only be visited with established community tours.

Santé
Dengue is a recurring epidemic; yellow fever vaccination is recommended for most of the country outside the coastal cities. Private healthcare is excellent in the big cities. SUS public hospitals treat emergencies free.
Argent
Reais; Pix instant payments dominate but require a Brazilian bank account. Cards are accepted nearly everywhere. ATM fees are high; Banco do Brasil and Bradesco are reliable, and withdrawals may be blocked after 10 p.m. for security.
Pourboires: 10 percent service charge usually included · Eau du robinet: Not recommended; filtered water is standard
Se déplacer
Distances demand flights: LATAM, GOL and Azul. Buses are excellent for shorter hops. Uber and 99 are the city defaults; Rio's metro covers the main beaches.
Cartes SIM et connectivité
Claro, Vivo and TIM; foreign tourists can buy prepaid SIMs with a passport at official shops, which is more reliable than kiosks. eSIMs (Airalo, Holafly) are simpler.
